Russell Nickels Salyer, 75, of Kingsport, TN passed away on January 9, 2021. Russ Salyer was born on February 2, 1945 in Southwest, VA, and was adopted by Russell and Ilo Salyer.
Russ Salyer grew up in Kingsport, TN with a sister, Deborah, and graduated from Ketron High School where he excelled in athletics. Russ Salyer enjoyed an extensive career as a computer engineer in the printing press industry as well an equally outstanding career as a car salesman. Russ Salyer’s love and passion for athletics continued throughout his life in which he was an avid fan of the University of Tennessee. Russ Salyer also discovered an extreme affection for the game of golf in which he gifted that same passion to his two youngest sons. However, his most coveted passion came through the lives of his children. Russ Salyer was an outspoken individual displaying a jovial personality to family, friends, and strangers alike. He never knew a stranger, and would always find a place in a conversation to brag on the accomplishments of his children which he held in higher regard than his own. Russ Salyer was a provider, a teacher, a life coach, and most importantly a gentleman.
Russ Salyer is survived by his sister, Deborah Gangloff, his three sons, Russell Salyer Jr., Chase Salyer, and Trevor Salyer, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his father, Russell Salyer, his mother, Ilo Salyer, and his daughter, Rhanee Salyer.
The funeral service will be held at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport, TN on January 16, 2021 at 11 am. The family of Russ Salyer will be there to welcome any friends wishing to attend.
