Irene Morris Scott

November 5, 1935 - April 21, 2021

Irene Morris Scott, 85, of Bluffton, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Scott, and son, Anthony “Tony” Darryl Ayers.
Irene was born on November 5, 1935, in Charleston County, the daughter of the late Robert Chester Morris and Annie Gaskins Morris of Huger. She was a member of the Eccles United Methodist Church in Huger. Irene was a former employee of Shuron in Barnwell and later of Scott’s Meats in Bluffton. “Rene,” as she was affectionately called, was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a firm believer in several charitable organizations that dealt with military veterans and children, most notably the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She loved working in the yard, solving puzzles, and reading, but if you asked, she would say her most precious time was spent with family.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her son, Michael “Pepe” Alan Ayers of Huger; daughter, Debra “Debbie” (Walter) Criddle of Bluffton; and daughter, Donna Ayers Taylor of Barnwell. She was the proud Grammy/Grandmomma to 11 grandchildren, their spouses, and 16 great-grandchildren with another one she was looking forward to enjoying upon arrival in July.
No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled. Memorials may be made to the Eccles United Methodist Church, 1696 Eccles Church Road, Huger, SC 29450, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
