Eugene Erwin Bushey

Eugene Erwin Bushey, resident of The Palmettos, Bluffton, South Carolina, died November 27, 2019 at the age of 91. Born December 13, 1927 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, he earned a B.S. degree at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master’s of Education at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He was Supervisor of Art Education for the Milwaukee Public Schools from 1957 until his retirement in 1986. Following his retirement, he lived in Atlanta, Sun City Hilton Head, and The Palmettos of Bluffton, South Carolina.

An accomplished artist, his large body of mixed media paintings appeared in thirty-seven juried shows and five solo exhibitions in venues throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Carolina; including the Milwaukee Art Center, The Wisconsin Salon of Art-University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, The Marian Studio-Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Lorraine Seeyle Bushey, (Jackie), and his three brothers, Harold, Walter, and Ralph Bushey. He is survived by daughter Nancy (Robert) Wermuth; son Gregory (Michelle) Bushey; five grandchildren, Betsy Wermuth, Alison Wermuth (Simon Dick), Erik Wermuth, Scott Bushey, Bradley Bushey; and one great-grandchild, Charles Robert; as well as many nieces, nephews, students, and friends. The family has chosen to have a private service. Saul’s Funeral Home, Bluffton, South Carolina is assisting the family with their arrangements.
