Scott joined our mother and younger brother across the bridge on Sunday November 18, 2018. Scott frequently joked that he lived life in reverse, enjoying a beachcomber's retirement when he was younger, and finding new purpose in maturity at a job he loved with a company and coworkers he respected and enjoyed spending time with as he got older.
Scott was always a free spirit, an idealist, a peacemaker and a romantic, but also had the heart of a lion and would always stand up for the underdogs and society's strays. From the time he was a kid, he couldn't tolerate a bully, and while he would often use his razor sharp wit to defuse confrontations and tense situations, he was also never afraid to be a shield if words failed. In this, he was a true warrior - never choosing the fight, but never walking away once other options failed.
Scott was a fixer, in so many senses of that word. He was jokingly compared to Macgyver because he could make the most creative repairs out of the most minuscule resources, whether it was a busted pipe, broken furnace, punctured roof, a broke-down car or a broken heart. Scott was the one so many of us called for advice, for help, for reassurance, for comfort. He always had an answer, always found a fix always knew what to say to make you laugh, put things in perspective and help you figure out what to do.
Scott was stolen from his life and the future he was just discovering way to soon. He is survived by his loving sister Lisa Carriker of Virginia, his adoring furry nephew Jake, his aunt Nancy Wanamaker of Gibsonville, NC, his cousin-twin Leslie Dinga of Rutherfordton, an extended family of cousins, Peggy Mahnken of Charlotte, and his many other friends in several states.

Lisa, I'm so very sorry for your loss, Scott didn't deserve this. We had a lot or fun times and laughs with Scott over the years and will remember them fondly. Still having a hard time believing that this even happened. RIP Scott.
