Cremation Service Bogalusa, Franklinton, and Mount Hermon, LA

E. J. Fielding Funeral Home of Covington, Louisiana was founded in 1992 by Edward J. Fielding, a fifth-generation funeral director and embalmer, who has over 45 years’ experience to offer. The Fielding name is well known in the area for funeral care; the family has served the St. Tammany Parish area for over 80 years. Offering many different options to the bereaved from grief counseling, flowers and gifts to full funeral, memorial, interment, and crematory services, E. J. Fielding Funeral Home is a trustworthy name in the field.

In partnership with SimpleCremationOnline.com, E. J. Fielding Funeral Home offers direct cremation. Direct cremation is becoming an increasingly popular option, because it can be both ecologically responsible and financially sensible. For those who are not familiar with direct cremation, it is an option that consists of cremation without a viewing or funeral beforehand. Afterward, a memorial service can be held and the remains either interred or placed into an urn.

For direct cremations, E. J. Fielding Funeral Home offers the options of a mausoleum niche, burial on cemetery grounds, a wide variety of available urns and boxes, and they can even help the family to plan a ‘green burial,’ an environmentally friendly choice.

Let’s look at the larger towns served by E. J. Fielding Funeral Home and SimpleCremationOnline.com.

Cremations in Bogalusa

Bogalusa is a city of over 12,000 people that was founded in 1908 by the Great Southern Lumber Company which, under the management of Frank and Charles Goodyear, built the city in order to house sawmill workers for Great Southern.

The city continued to flourish. Although the Goodyears withdrew from the lumber company in 1938, the sawmill is still a going concern today. Bogalusa boasts its own K-12 school system, as well as Northshore Technical Community College, founded in 1930 and known as the first trade school established in the state of Louisiana.

Some of its native sons have become famous, including Kenderick Allen and Al Clark of the NFL; Yusef Komunyakaa, 1994 Pulitzer Prize winner for poetry; and Professor Longhair, famous jazz musician. There is little doubt that Bogalusa is a town that will continue to flourish for years to come.

Franklinton Cremations

Franklinton, parish seat of Washington Parish, is a town with a long history. It was founded in 1819 as ‘Franklin,’ but this was later changed in 1826 to avoid confusion with a nearby town of the same name. Franklinton is a small town, with a population of around 4,000 people. The town is host to the Washington Parish Free Fair, the largest free fair in the United States, and second-largest county fair in the state. Schools in the area include Bowling Green, Washington Parish, and Franklinton High School.

Franklinton has been home to a number of politicians, including Jerry Thomas, who served in the State House of Representatives, and Beth Mizell, who is currently a District 12 state senator. The town served as the backdrop for the book Dead Man Walking.

Mount Hermon Cremations

Mount Hermon is a small settlement in Washington Parish. Previously a Navajo settlement area, the town was founded prior to the Civil War. The Mount Hermon church was built in 1874 by the Reverend Thomas Walker Adams. The unincorporated community includes Mount Hermon High School, although the Mile Branch Settlement includes the original one-room schoolhouse that once served the community.

The town has produced few famous names, but has been home to Louisiana political leader Jesse Homer Bankston senior, and Lionel Ott, a Louisiana Senator and active member of the New Orleans City Council in the ’40s and ’50s.

We are also available to help you make special tribute or memorial arrangements and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you at any time. Please call us at (985) 612-7975.
