Cremation Service Sycamore, Genoa and DeKalb, IL

With a lineage in funeral services dating back to 1888, the Olson family own and operate one of the most reliable and longest established businesses in the Rockford area. While times have changed since then, the dedication and professionalism of this company remains. Olson Funeral Home has managed to maintain its high standards while incorporating new ideas and the latest technology into the business.

As experts in direct cremation, Olson Funeral Home offers a variety of options to suit individual needs and preferences. As direct cremation becomes increasingly popular, the advantages are clear, including affordability, environmental benefits, simplicity, and expedience. In addition, personalized memorial services can still be included after the cremation, allowing loved ones to grieve in a way that is both personal and profound.

With cremation costs, there are none of the extra costs to consider that are associated with more traditional funerals, such as caskets, embalming, headstones, and the purchase of a burial plot. These can significantly add to the overall cost. The only extra to be considered is an urn or container in which to keep the remains, and any costs of an optional post-cremation memorial.

Sycamore, IL Cremations

Olson Funeral Home is proud to serve many locations, the most prominent being Rockford, but Sycamore, Genoa, and DeKalb are all within their catchment area.

The present-day town of Sycamore started off in 1835 with one cabin, owned by a Carlos Lattin, who staked a claim covering most of the west side of town. More buildings followed, but it wasn’t until the arrival of the railroad after the Civil War that the population swelled.

In 1962, one townsperson developed a love of carving pumpkins and proudly displayed them on his front lawn. This developed into the annual Sycamore Pumpkin Festival that today attracts tourists from all over the state and further afield. The town is also able to boast some fascinating architecture found in the Sycamore Historic District.

Cremations in Genoa

Originally built to serve the historic Galena-Chicago stagecoach route, Genoa can be found in the northeast corner of the county. Founded by Thomas Madison, it was named after the Genoa area in New York. Today, the town boasts a regular farmer’s market and car show.

Genoa Township has two cemeteries — Genoa Cemetery and Noa Cemetery. The township has no less than three airports and landing strips — Richard C. Watson Airport, Aero Lake Estates Airport, and Ramme Airport. It is a part of the Genoa-Kingston school district. This district has three public elementary schools, a public middle school and public high school; Genoa-Kingston Middle School and Genoa-Kingston High School respectively. Also in the township of Genoa is the unincorporated town of New Lebanon.

DeKalb, Illinois Cremations

This city shares its name with the county of DeKalb, and it is named after the war hero Johann De Kalb, who died during the American War of Independence. The area comprises some forty-four parks that cover seven hundred acres. It is also home to the respected Northern Illinois University, which is the largest employer in the area.

Also within DeKalb County and served by Olson Funeral Home are the towns of Afton, Brush Point, Clare, Clinton, Coltonville, Cortland Town, Esmond, Fairdale, Franklin, Genoa, Herbert, Hinckley Village, Kirkland Village, Kingston Village, Lee Village, Malta Village, Maple Park Village, Mayfield, Milan, McGirr, Milan, Pierce, Rollo, Sandwich City, Shabbona Village, Somonauk Village, South Grove, Squaw Grove, Waterman Village, and Valley View.

DeKalb has contributed several notable persons of interest over the years, with perhaps the most famous being supermodel Cindy Crawford. Other well-known people include actor Richard Jenkins and actor Barbara Hale.
